It could be handy to know what the most common problem is when you just next->next->... the audio wizard. Then we could try to tune the default settings.
Have you forwarded both the UDP and TCP port. The TCP port is used for setting up the communication and the UDP port is used for the raw audio stream transfer.
Try to update your sound drivers. When a program hangs this is often due to the drivers it is working with.
