PulseAudio Output Problems

My issue is when I try to use PulseAudio for audio output: no incoming sound is heard. When I use the "Default Output" option, this is the case and if I use the "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" option, there is sound, but it's all garbled and I can't understand anything that is said.


I get no incoming sound at all unless I use the ALSA "sysdefault..." option, which is a problem because it takes complete control of any sounds that might be happening aside from Mumble. I've tried compiling from source, even tried compiling without ALSA support, but the results are the same.
