Audio Quality Question

I'm noticing with some users in Mumble (it seems to be specific people; not everybody) that when they start talking the audio literally goes down the drain. The audio that comes through is static-filled, at best, and absolutely crushes my ear drums whenever they talk to the point I almost tell them to simply not. talk.

But it's only a few people; others can talk just fine.

I'm really liking Mumble but man these small annoyances are just that - annoyances. If I can get them sorted that'd be great.

Any thoughts as to why this is going on? Is it my end? Their end? I realize there are plenty of audio settings available so if you need to know specifics, don't hesitate to ask.

A final point that I'll give is that when questioning others they don't seem to have the same issue with these same users. This leads me to believe that it is probably on my end of things.

I believe I've come across a solution - at least for now.

1. Right clicked the properties of Mumble. I set compatibility mode to Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

2. I made sure that DirectSound was the option in Audio Output as well as disabling Positional Audio.

I re-ran the audio wizard and had to re-adjust the settings. Once this was complete I rejoined Mumble and it seems the problem has been removed.

For reference I am using Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit with a Logitech G35 Gaming Headset. I'll be able to tell for sure in tonight's raid but it seems to have solved the issue for now.
