Crackling/popping/static noise when people begin talking

I am running a Mumble server for my group on a Lubuntu machine. Sometimes when audio is picked up and transmitted, a strange crackling/popping/static noise comes with it. I have googled the issue and found a number of people reporting the same but no solutions. I already run Mumble in Windows Vista compatibility mode (because Windows 10 has removed Windows XP compatibility mode, apparently) to fix the issue with G930 headsets not outputting audio through both ears.
