plop at beginning and end of speech

In Mumble I use transmission based on 'Voice Activity'. When I do though some of the time I hear a plop at the beginning and/or end of the transmission as recipient of the transmission. I find this to be annoying.

I'm assuming this is due to the sound wave starting at a specific point when the amplitude (or signal to noise ratio) is high enough.

Isn't there a way to improve on this by for example creating an input buffer of a few milliseconds and when the amplitude reaches a high enough point at the end of the buffer start transmitting from the beginning of the buffer with a volume-correction of -30dB or so and increasing it to 0dB in those few milliseconds?
