Output channel balance?

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I've just set up Mumble with my Logitech G930 headset and while it's working great, the output audio is very, very slanted to the right. Is there a way I can balance this so the person's voice is evenly distributed between the right and left channels?


Any help here would be huge. Thanks!

You could check positional audio in the audio output configuration. If positional audio is no selected, mumble will provide a mono audio stream. Some audio devices have problems distributing it evenly over the loudspeakers. When positional audio is selected mumble will get the loudspeaker count from your device drivers and provide the needed amount of audio streams.

Thanks for the reply, rawnar. Unfortunately, playing with positional audio did not correct the issue. After enabling it, I went through the setup wizard and noticed that during the positional audio setup, when the spinning ball would rotate to the left, there was virtually no audio, but while on the right, there was full volume on the right. It may still be related (or a bug?) as other apps that don't (as far as I know) have positional audio (Vent, TS, Steam, Skype) don't appear to have this problem. Even the text-to-speech function is evenly distributed.


Any other ideas? If not, I'd love to see a feature in a future release to manually balance this.

I think the sound drivers of your headset are giving mumble a speaker configuration that mumble can not decipher. Open the log file of mumble at look for warnings starting with AudioOutput. If you see an entry like Unknown speaker #int: #hex then there are some speakers that are not recognized by mumble. The initialized #int channel #int hz mixer will give you the amount of speaker the device is presenting to mumble. Will monitoring the log file you can start playing with different sound systems and the sound devices in the audio output configuration, also check and un-check the headphone box. Do not forget to switch the advanced settings on so you can see all the possible settings.


Please report your findings here and also provide some info about your OS.

I have the same problem with my G930, but only when I'm not running the headset in surround sound mode. I can make the balance sound far more even in non-surround mode if I go into the G930 configuration app and drop the volume on the two active speakers from 11 down to 10. It's not perfect that way, but it's way better than the out of the box behavior of mumble with this hardware. Just like the OP, I have no problems with any other audio sources on the machine, including the speaker configuration tests that are built into windows.
